In celebration of the 2018 Lincoln Continental hitting the market soon, it’s time to take a look at the iconic car over the years. The release of the 2017 Lincoln Continental last year was a welcome resurrection. The legendary vehicle had been out of production since 2002. However, interest in the Lincoln Continental has been revived, and the luxury vehicle appears here to stay.

The Lincoln Continental established itself as an icon from the start. The Lincoln Continental was launched in 1939, and immediately it became legendary. The thing that made the Lincoln Continental unique was how modern it was. Frank Lloyd Wright was an adamant supporter of the car, calling the 1940 Lincoln Continental “the most beautiful car ever designed.”

Lincoln continued designing and manufacturing some of the time’s most luxurious and memorable vehicles. Unforgettable is perhaps the best word to describe the Lincoln Continental Mark II. This is the vehicle that giant names in the entertainment industry drove, including Elvis, Frank Sinatra, and Elizabeth Taylor.

Unfortunately, the Lincoln Continental will also always be remembered in connection with one of the United States’ defining tragedies. On November 22, 1963, 35th President of the United States John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. Kennedy had been riding in a modified 1961 Lincoln Continental at the time.

Lincoln continued making innovations to the Lincoln Continental, and launched the Lincoln Continental Mark V in 1977. Eventually, when the auto market at large hit a recession, they were forced to discontinued the vehicle, only to bring it back to critical acclaim in 2017.

The 2018 Lincoln Continental has a significant name to live up to, and it looks like it will honor the Lincoln Continental’s storied history.
