Lincoln Motor Company recently announced a new high level strategy focused on products and services that integrate seamlessly into the target customer’s lifestyle. As a part of this strategy, the classic manufacturer launched a special pilot program for current Lincoln owners in select cities this April.
In the vein of popular ride sharing apps, Lincoln Chauffeur allows users to “hire” a short term personal driver, except that unlike Lyft and Uber, Lincoln’s drivers sit behind the wheel of the customer’s car instead of their own. Drivers may take clients to events or appointments, or they may run errands requested by the client on their own. Because of this difference, Chauffeur drivers are highly trained, carefully screened professionals, fitting with Lincoln’s luxury branding.
While initially available only in Miami, after finding success with the program, Lincoln decided to expand to San Diego in the near future and eventually beyond. There’s no guarantee Lincoln Chauffeur will become a nationwide service like its inspiration, the popular Pickup and Delivery, which sends valets to pick up a customer's vehicle for service and drop off a loaner, but in a world where ride sharing and self-driving cars become increasingly commonplace, it may be a worthwhile option to explore.
"This service is generating a lot of interest among Lincoln owners, Eric Cin, Lincoln's client services manager, said in a statement. "They're using it for dinner dates, for doctor appointments; they're recognizing just how convenient it is to have this option available."
An additional service called “At-Home Test Drive” is also currently being piloted in Texas. As the name implies, a user can schedule a test drive of any Lincoln vehicle via the internet, and a representative will bring the car directly to their front door.
