The summer heat has begun to abate, and schools are back in session. Though it may not seem it, this time of year is a great time to be on the road. In fact, there may be more opportunities for travel than there are during the summer. Granted, beach vacations aren’t plausible, but there are a lot of other options.

Not only are there are lot of options for travelling during the fall, there are countless opportunities close to home. You don’t need to hop on a flight or board a cruise this fall to have a great trip. There are some great options that you can reach from Wilkes-Barre on a single tank of gas.

Pulaski, New York: Compared to the other destinations on this list, this little town is much less of a tourist destination. The quaint town is just under 200 miles away from Wilkes-Barre. The town is internationally known for the Salmon River that runs through it, which features an astounding migration of both salmon and trout, starting in the fall and heading through the winter.

If you are an avid fisherman, this destination is one to check out. However, even if you don’t fish, the sight of all the migrating fish is still one to behold, especially for anyone interested in nature. The whole scene is picturesque.

Niagara Falls: Niagara Falls needs little introduction. This incredible feat of nature can be seen from either Canada or the United States. At under a 270 mile drive, Niagara Falls can be a great destination to visit this fall.

In addition to the Falls, there's are plenty of shopping and dining options.

Baltimore, Maryland: Like Niagara, Baltimore needs little in the way of introducing. A historic and diverse city, there is something for everyone to enjoy this fall. You can attend a Ravens game, check out the National Aquarium, or just tour the harbor. The city is just under 200 miles away, making it a great one tank trip.

These three destinations are just a few of the wide variety of options available. One tank of gas can get you to some really great places.
